Beyond marrying Laura, starting a business with my wife was the best decision I’ve ever made. Our friends and family said we were crazy — we were newlyweds and still in college! But I had a dream to work in sound and music production, she had natural business acumen, and the market was hungry for next-level service. So much so that we’ve ended up growing Mayfield Events into three coordinating, thriving brands: Mayfield Events, Muse Designs, and Mayfield Production. Today, our roles are pretty clear: Laura dreams it up, and I figure out how to make it happen. I’m not cheesy enough to call us a “power couple,” but if the boot fits…

I never intended to be a wedding planner. But what’s a girl to do when she has good taste, a knack for logistics, and the music production business she starts with her husband takes off? Quit her job as a teacher, of course, and dive head-first into the day-to-day magic of planning exceptional events. That was 20 years ago, and looking back at three brands we’ve built and the hundreds of couples we’ve served, I’m not surprised Mayfield Events has earned many accolades and a sterling reputation. My wedding day to Jason was the best day of my life, and our team brings that level of dedication to each wedding we envision for our couples.

When it comes to event planning, the moniker “everything’s bigger in Texas'' is so true. I’ve planned retirement ceremonies for the U.S. Air Force in Miami and fundraisers with celebrity guests like Siegfried and Roy in Las Vegas, but nothing beats the creativity and opulence of a Dallas-Fort Worth wedding. Literally anything can be done here if you have the imagination, mindset and the drive, which is something of a Mayfield Events specialty.

Life’s too short not to live it surrounded by beauty. And events naturally hold so much beauty: they put our entire personalities on display, incorporate our loved ones, and commemorate our biggest moments. You’d think that makes my work easier, but actually it makes it more complex; I constantly push my imagination to new heights because each of our couples deserves not just a gorgeous event, but an heirloom experience. Talk about a dream job.
